Moro man is charged in Clarendon murderA charge of capital felony murder was filed Thursday against Gary Hurst, 22, of Moro in the shooting death of Miss Linda Caplener, 16, of Clarendon.Miss Caplener’s nuae body was found apparently shot three or four times Wednesday at an abandoned house eight miles north of Clarendon, authorities said. Her mother said she was four months pregnant. She reportedly was abducted from her home shortly before the shooting.Moms said Prosecuting Attorney Jim Bayne of DeValls Bluff filed the chftrge at 9 a.m. in Monroe Circuit Court at Clarendon. The sheriff said that a 10 a.m. hearing, Circuit Judge William Lee of Clarendon ordered that Hurst be given a 30-dayRiychiatric examination at the State ospital at Little Rock.Morris said Hurst arrived at Little Rock Thursday afternoon to begin the tests. Hurst spent the night at the monroe County Jail at clarendon after being arrested Wed afternoon.Morris said he hoped an autopsy report from the state Medical Examiner’s office would be available before the end of the week.SISTER ESCAPESMiss Caplener’s sister, Debbie, said a man came to the Caplenerhouse at Clarendon early Wednesday afternoon and ordered the two girls into a bedroom to disrobe.Miss Debbie Caplener said she escaped and called the police but her sister was abducted before policearrived.Miss Caplener’s body was found about two hours after the abduction when Hurst led authorities to thespot.Hurst was apprehended Wed. near the junction of state Highway 17 and U. S. Highway 70, after police set up road-blocks in the area.
