La Crosse's first Arrest under the new beer And beverage ordinance i! was made At 12:45 Saturday morning by Police Officer Rnssell John-I son nt tbe Busy Bee confectionery,207 North Third street.Johnson arrested Leonard Mattie, proprietor of the place, for selling beer after midnight A man and twowomen who were customers of tho place were instructed to appear at Central station with Mattie at t o'clock Saturday. No charges were brought against the customers.Arraigned in municipal court before Judge George P. Ruedlger,Mattie entered a plea of not guilty.A trial was set for 2 o’clock on Jaly 12. No ball was designated.Mattie claimed he sold the beer [before midnight. Johnson said there was a glass of beer on the counter when he entered tbe establishment.
