Mary Krantz was arraigned on an affidavit filed by Humane Officer Schlaudroff, in which she was charged with extreme cruelty to Mary Krantz, thirteen years old, and Michael Krantz, three years younger, and both her stepchildren. She is a' Pollock and can not understand English. It will be recalled that the girl ran away from home because of; the cruel treatment of her stepmother; and was picked up on the streets and sent to Mrs. Gorsline until the oase^could be investigated.The girl stated on the stand, this morning that her stepmother had beaten her with a club, a strap,stovepoker and a broomstick, had compelled her to wash her own ing and had not supplied her sufficient food.The boy testified to the same thing, i and an uncle was placed on the standi who said he had oared for tho ch.il-0 dren, had given them food and cloth-J ing, and that they were crueUy,|treated at home. In the midst ofi^the testimony, which was given in a i mixture of German, English and j Polish, Mrs. Krantz said: i“Du bist ein leugner. Sie hben es^verdient.” Which according to Lieu«j tenant Lapp's translation means “You are a liar. The girl has de-i served it,” whereupon she was ex-{eluded from the court room as she'i%insisted upon uttering ejaculations full of strenuous German invectives..
