THE RACE TROUBLES.Governor Will TakeUptlie Matter Himself, tlie Sheriff Hav-ing Failed to PerformHitt Duty.Springfield, July 7.—Governor Yates re-ceivcd a letter to day from Sheriff Baxter, of Saline county, insisting he did his duty In the alleged race troubles at the colored school at Eldorado and was doing all he could to protect colored people. The governor responded that the statements of the sheriff and officer he sent to Eldoradoto investigate do not agree. The governor says the sheriff having failed to bring back those frightened away and assure them protection he will take up the matter himself.The governor yesterday received a letter from President Alston of the Industrial institute of Eldorado, confirming the reports of violence against colored people of Eldorado. Ho writes from Metropolis, Hi., and states there have been acts of violence against colored people of Eldorado the past four or five months. He says that, owing to mob violence, the contemplated sale of the property May was prevented and he and his wife are now’ in Metropolis, where the colored population is very strong, because they lelt then lives were in danger as long as they remained in Eldorado, tie also states it is the intention of the trustees to establish the school elsewhere^ Yatesurges .them to open the school at the*proper time as if no disturbance had occurred, saying. “I will furnish you by telegraph all such force as may be necessary to protect you and all inmates of the school from disturbance of any kind whatever/'
