July 7.—The programme for the centennial celebration of Salem Baptist Churcli. at Sparta, Caroline county, will include the following special features: Historical sketch of Rev. Andrew Broaddus, the pastor;a.n address on I he “Value of the Local Church.” Tty Rev. It. W. IT Hatcher, of Richmond; unveiling of portraits of former pastors and an address by Rev. F. B. Beale, of King and Que£n county; address on “Baptists and Religious Liberty,” by Rev. Dr. George W. Beale, of Northumberland county; address on “Baptists and Missions,” by Rev. Dr. J. P. Dill, of this city. Since ISlM. this church has been werved by only three pastors, all bearing the name of Andrew Broaddus.Andrew Broaddus the tirst was succeeded by his son. Andrew roaddtis the second, and the son of the but* r, Andrew Broaddus th*' third, is the present pastor. He is under fifty years of age. and bids fair to serve his people many years yet. The church is larger and stronger at the present timo than it has over been before. It. is in fine condition ! pnorally, and a liberal contributor. The | present pastor has no other charge, and j gives his entire time to this church. It j is expected that an immense crowd wib bo in attendance on the occasion of thecentennial. and expensive preparationsha vo. been made for entertaining the guests and visitors.
