Supermarket samplerCritique of new food itemsBy BONNIE TANDY LEBLANG and CAROLYN WYMANUniversal Press SyndicateKraft Todd's Southwest Recipe Barbecue Sauce. 99 cents to $1.49 per 18-ounce bottle.Bonnie: Kraft has adorned a bottle of its new Todd’s Southwest Recipe barbecue sauce with the face of Todd Leaf, a consumer who won $25,000 for the sweet sauce packaged in the bottle. Todd’s sauce recipe beat out almost 10,000 other entries in a contest the company conducted last year.Nutritionally, Todd’s sauce is similar to other barbecue sauces, although a tad lower in sodium than the Kraft’s Original sauce on which it’s based. Its taste is hot (from ancho chilies), sweet (from brown sugar) anddelicious. That’s why I’d suggest you turn over a new leaf this grilling season and give Todd’s sauce a try.Carolyn: Nowadays you don’t have to be as good-looking as Paul Newman to see your mug on a food product label. Lime is one of its most noticeable flavors. It’s thick, and has both sweet and heat but in a subtle rather than an in-your-face way.If Todd is at all representative of the kind of amateur cooking talent out there, professionalfood scientists at Kraft and elsewhere had better hold on to their salt and pepper shakers. Tightly.Pringles Potato Crisps. Pizza-li-cious, and Salt Vinegar. $1.77per 6.75-ounce canister.Bonnie: I’ve tasted some bad potato chips in my day but nothing quite as atrocious as Pringles’ new Pizza-licious. Like other Pringles, they’re made fromdried potatoes re-formed so each chip is sized and shaped to stack nicely in a tube container. Pizza-licious chips taste just as fake. So do the new Salt Vinegar ones, but they’re not as bad-tasting as the Pizza-licious.You should treat yourself and your guests better. I’d suggest serving delicious thick-cut, naturally low in fat, chemical-free Cape Cod Yukon Gold chips over
