Swanson, Chicago prosecutor, will be on hand to oppose issuance of a writ of habeas corpus for the release of James (“Fur”) Sammons from the penitentiary at Joliet.A news story written preceding the latest developments appears belowEuclid Taylor, habeas corpus expert, and Harry Ditchbourne, assistant state's attorney of Cook county, have been detailed by John A Swanson, Chicago's well known prosecutor, to oppose issuance of a writ of habeas corpus for the release of James ('‘Fur”) Sammons from thepenitentiary at Joliet when the hearing starts this evening, July 7, at WoodstockJudge E D Shurtleff will come from Waukegan late this afternoon, according to plans, to hear arguments in the case which has arrested unusual reader interest because of the record of Sammons, who was once sentenced to be hung, later his sentence changed to life imprisonment, later the sentence reduced to 50 years and thereafter paroled during the administration of Gov SmallW. W Smith, well known Chicago lawyer, and David R Joslyn, Sr , Woodstock attorney, are the legal representatives of Sammons.
