The murder occurred Saturday nigl'f, at Inland Creek, near Tophet, either In Mercer j or Summers counties. The victim of the assayin'8 bulTet was Neal Shannon. a young merchant at Island Creek, and a young man of fine character. Ho was shot by John Medley. a young negro about 23 years of age. who Immediately left the neighborhood, and It is thought came In the direction of llluefleld. A reward of five hundred dollars has been offered for his arrest.The murder is a sequel to a shooting affray that took place during the court house election In March. 1906. when Shannon shot the father of Medley in order to save his own life, which Medley threatened. Details of the present shooting are very meagre. It is said by those who know the Medleys that they have given the courts of Summers county more trouble than any other family In that county, some member of the family always being in trouble. ^
