POLLUTION A ■■' n-*v:0Amid illegal dumping, pastor leads clean upI xiv ingood rep: it’s an ongoing serious problem’BY SHEA JOHNSONSTAFF WRITERlenwood • In three days, a contingency of volunteers picked up 675 illegally dumped tires from a square perimeter of Lenwood desert.The problem of illegal dumping, which seems more prevalent in outlying areas of the city and in unincorporated areas, had finally gotten to Lenwood Community Church Pastor David Carr, who led the community clean-up effort last weekend.“I walk around the (Lenwood) community a lot,” Carr said, “and it’s just been driving me crazy. Two large bins for trash were donated by thecity’s Solid Waste Department.All four bins were filled by the time the volunteers were done sweeping a patch of area between Lenwood city limits and Highway 58, Carr said.Earlier this week, Carr was in touch with 1st District Supervisor Robert Lovingood’s Newberry Springs Field Representative Ron Frame.Frame, who connected Carr to the city’s SolidWaste Department, spoke during their conversation of wanting to get other organizations involved as Carr seeks to make these type of cleanups a regular occurrence.“Maybe we can pull some of our resources and make this a pattern that all communities willfollow,” Frame said by phoneWednesday.*Frame said he wants to encourage community educa tion, involvement and watchgroups.
