Cary Romano FoundvDead In PulaskiBy PAT CECILDmlly Tffegrspli Staff WrtirrPULASKI, Va. - The body of a 24-year-old Bluefield man was found Monday afternoon in his pick-up truck which was parked near here, according to the Virginia State Police.The victim was identified as Gary Nolan Romano of 1225 Castle wood Lane.Special Agent Gene Duff ofthe Wytheville detachment ofthe Virginia State Police said the body was found by a highway construction worker at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Interstate 81 about 1.4 miles south of exit 31.Although Duff said the details of the incident were sketchy, he indicated Romano had been shot at least one time ” in the nght side of the head. The caliber of the weapon which was used had mg been determined late Tuesday, according to the officer.We are definitely, positively treating this thing as a murder, he told the Daily Telegraph, noting no arrests have been made.Reports indicated Romano may have been dead for several days.“Our office has mg received a written report, Duff continued, “so we don’t have all the details yet.”The body was transported to Roanoke, Va., for an autopsy, Duff said. The results are expected within a week.Investigator A.K. Metro is in charge of the case.Bom in Bluefield, Romano was a son of Patrick and Betty Hawkins Romano. He was a graduate of Bluefield High School and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.Survivors include one sister, Gayle Steckline of Beckley; six brothers, Pat Romano of Cynthiana, Ky., Kit Romano of Martinsburg, Doug Romano of Inwood, Mark Romano of Bluefield, Va., Phil Romano and Peter Romano, both of Bluefield; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Jim Romano ofBluefield; maternal grandmother, Mrs. A.L. Hawkins of Bluefield.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Schneider officiating. Burialwill follow in Monte Vista Park Cemetery Friends may call at Hawkins Funeral Home today from 5 to 9 p.m.Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tonight.tla
