Tezak tries for early dischargeTamara SharmanA federal judge will decide Feb. 16 if former Will County coroner and convicted arsonist Robert Tezak will get a reduction in his prison sentence.Tezak’s lawyers are seeking to have his nearly 13-year prison sentence cut to seven years. If the judge rules in favor of that reduction, Tezak, once an influential force in county Republican politics, would be eligible for parole after serving about 40 months in prison.Currently he is eligible for parole after serving slightly more than six years, according to federal prosecutors. In July Tezak was sentenced to nine years in prison on arson charges and 46 months for threatening to kill a government witness. His sentence included five years of probation for conspiracy to commit arson.Tezak’s defense attorneys reportedly claim prosecutors oppose a reduction in the former coroner’s sentence because information he supplied to them as part of an ongoing federal investigation of Will County was not as helpful as predicted.See TEZAK Page A-4
