Police honor David Ruiz prosecutorsAUSTIN (AP) - The Austin Poliee Association has honored the two Travis County prosecutors who handled the recent aggravated robbery trial of prison reform activist David Ruiz.The association’s rare certificate of appreciation was given to assistant district attorneys Brian Bishop and Terry Keel, who prosecuted Buiz in the three-week trial that resulted in a conviction and life sentence.Bishop and Keel are the only prosecutors ever honored by the police association, officials said. The two also received certificates of appreciation from Austin Police Chief Jim Everett.It was Ruiz’s hand-written court petition that began the years of legal proceedings leading to a federal judge ordering sweeping reforms in the operation of state prisons.
