Dawkins releases ShieldsAMITE - Calvin Shields, 19, of Fluker, who was charged with murder in the alleged killing-for-pay death of Storekeeper Phillip Hayden, 59, of Areola has been ordered released by Dist Judge William Dawkins.At the preliminary hearing last week end the judge ruled that there was no probable cause for holding Shields in the Aug. 25 murder. :Shields had testified that the victim’s son, Harry N. Hayden, 16, hadoffered him $500 to kill the elder Hayden but he refused.Murder charges areSending against young layden and his mother, Mrs. Mildred R. Hayden, 54.The son has pleaded innocent and innocent by reason of insanity. He is at East Louisiana State Hospital in Jackson a psychiatric evaluation.The Hayden youth confessed and led officers to the hiding place of a pistol that was allegedlythe murder weapon, according to deputies of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs office.The boy said he promised Shields $500 and provided him with the gun.Authorities said the mother knew of the arrangement and called her husband to the drive-in window at the store when the youth came up to the window and asked to see the elder Hayden. 1In the hearing Fridayshields and another witness testified that Shields was outside the store when the shooting took place.[ Weather ]Southeast Louisiana — Showers and a few locally heavy thunderstorms likely today, ending tonight and becoming partly cloudy tonight and Tuesday.
