Woman JurornFalls In LoveWith Accusedi}]SAN RAFAEL, Calif, (UPI) —A woman who once voted as a juror to convict San Quentin prison inmate Robert G. Glover on a knifing charge was ordered Thursday to submit in evidence 500 letters which she received from him since his trial in 1963.Superior Court Judge Joseph Wilson rejected the contention of Mrs. Dolores Dutra, 30, who said she fell in love with Glover during his first trial, divorced her husband and now considers herself the convict’s common law wife.Judge Wilson also rejected a defense request that he formalize the marriage in his ehambers. The request came during Glover’s rc-trial on a charge of stabbing a fellow inmate at San Quentin. The original conviction-returned by a jury including Mrs. Dutra—was overturned by a higher court, which ordered the new trial.Mrs. Dutra, who testified as a witness Tuesday, said she and Glover, 33, have carried on their pen-pal romance since his first trial. They have never met outside prison walls, but she visits him regularly and wears a “wedding” ring which he fashioned from a dime at Folsom prison after his first trial. The prosecution requested that the love letters be introduced as evidence on the grounds that they might contain information about the stabbing. The defense argued that Mrs. Dutra considers herself married to Glover and that the law permits a wife to refuse to testify against her husband.Judge Wilson overruled defense arguments and ordered Mrs. Dutra to produce the letters.Glover was first sent to state prison in 1954 for second degree robbery. lie was released in 1951, but returned to prison the same year on a five year to life sentence for parole violation and first degree robbery.Earlier testimony indicated that Glover had once been an unruly prisoner—but has become a model inmate since he and Mrs Dutra began eorre* ! sponding.
