(AP): -Dolores Dutra, a slender divorcee. who does not wear lip' slick, announced in court Thursday she loves a convict who she once- helped lo convict of assault*After professing the love that started while she sat in a Jury box* she asked Judge Joseph Wilson to marry her Immediately to the convict, Robert Gen Glover* 33, from whom she has received 5(10 love letters, fThe judge refused, saying Glover has no civil rights, including the right to be married.Mrs. Dutra, 30, was a juror when Glover was convicted In 1963 of assault with intent to kill —the stabbing of Henry L. Wol-fenden, 28, while both were he-hind bars at San Quentin Prison. Glover was serving a term for robbery.Because Glover had not been informed of his legal rights, the stabbing conviction was over-’ turned and the present trial resulted. .Called as WitnessMrs. Dutra, wearing a wedding band Glover fashioned from a dime, was called as a witness by Leonard Shaw, assistant district attorney who said he wanted to see if the love letters talked about the stabbing.William Weissich. defense attorney appointed by the court, objected and declared that Glover and Mrs. Dutra are married in the eyes .of God, if not in the' law. Wives do not have to testify against husbands.It was then that Mrs. Dutra, wearing a sweater' and short skirt, tried unsuccessfully to get married on the spot.She began visiting Glover late the year of the first stabbing trial. He had been transferred to Folsom Prison., He Is permitted to write 20 letters a month and they alt have gone to her.By the end of the court session, 100 of the 500 sentimental missives had been entered in evidence.Gained CustodyMrs, Dutra, who lives at Novato, Calif., . was divorced in 1564 by Alfred Dutra who charged her with extreme cruelty, and gained custody of their daughters, Aurora, 9, and Minerva. 7,Weissich says his client, known as a bad boy at San Quentin, has reformed since the courtship-by-mail started.Glover told a reporter he will be eligible for parole in nine years, on his original robbery conviction and on the stabbing if he is convicted this time.
