Firebirds-Demons matchup tonight features brothers on opposing teamsBy Natalie SayewichStaff WriterFike junior Darius Sessoms is in an unfamiliar spot this season. After growing up playing alongside his brother on various basketball teams at Southern Nash High School, Sessoms transferred to Fike for the 2011-2012 school year and has become an integral part of the Demons’ basketball team. His older brother, Josh, a senior, still plays for Southern Nash. Today on Darius’ home court, the two will face off against each other for the second time this season. In their first meeting, in Stan- • hope, Fike got the win, 59-55, as the younger Sessoms scored a season-high 10 points to help his new team get the win.But he insists there wasn’t any added motivation playing against his former team.“I really just was trying to win the game,” he said. “That’s what I’m in it for — trying to win. State on Feb. 1 — National Signing Day.“I think he’s got the spotlight more on him than his brother over there,” said the boys’ father, Garland Sessoms. “They can be individuals.”An added benefit for Darius, Garland said, was getting more time on the court at Fike.“He was coming off the bench over there with Josh,” he said. “At Fike he starts and he gets goodSee SESSOMS, Page 2BSouthern Nash's Josh Sessoms, left, and Fike's Darius Sessoms, right, line up for a free throw during their Jan. 6 game at Southern Nash.
