Struggle Ensues as Officer Attempts Arrest for Beating Elton Carroll on Highway Near Wasco; Coroner's Jury Justifies Officer—Performing DutyJohn Q. Ingram, 27, of Morro Bay, was fatauy shot Sunday night as he, fought with Constable Tom Jones for { possession of the officer's gun. Joneshad interrupted Ingram, who appear-'ed to be in a drunken rage, while he jwas beating his (Ingram’s) brother-i in-law, Elton Carroll, 17 years old,| also of Morro Bay. ]| In the sculfle for the gun the ’ weapon was discharged and a 38-. caliber copper jacketed bullet tore throbgh Ingram’s body, entering just 1 to the- left of the center of the body i at the upper part of the stomach, ranging slightly downward and passing through the back. Immediately after receiving emergency treatment by Dr. E. S. Fogg, Ingram was re-,moved in a Flickenger-Digier ambulance to the Kern genera! hospital where he succumbed to his injuriesat 12:35 a. m.By a curious trend of fate, Carroll soon found himself a victim of a car!KERN CORONER'S JURY ACQUITS OFFICER INFIGHT FOR HIS GUNAccording to the verdict of thecoroner’s inquest into the deathof John Q. Ingram, Constable Tom Jones was exonerated from blame for his slaying.
