He Attempts Bob Dnrham’s Lire in Atlanta,But Is Pnieoted and Chained.Last Monday’s Atlanta Herald gives the following account of the first meeting of John Williams and Bob Durham after a separation of thirteen years, in which Williams attempts to wreak vengeance uponhis enemy vRobert Durham and John Williams, two life-time convicts, came near making a scene at police headquarters yesterday that might have resulted seriously but for the presence of officers.Durham has been for thirteen years at the Chattahoochee river camp and saw Williams yesterday for the first time since he had been wearing a convict’s stripes.The story of the two men is a strange one. More than thirteen years ago a woman of bad character was killed at Bain bridge and Durham was arrested for the crime. He swore during the trial that John and Walter Williams had paid him to do the killing as the woman had learned of their stealing $1,300, and for that reason they wanted her out of the way.The two brothers were arrested, hut Walter Williams escaped and went west. Durham and John Williams were both given life sentences, but Williams escaped before he could be taken to the penitentiary. The two brothers met in the west and lived there for thirteen years, but were arrested a few months ago and brought back to this state.John Williams was sent at once to serve out his term, and his brother was taken to Bainbridge, where his trial will begin today. The two men who met yesterday are being taken as witnesses.Williams would probably have killed Durham yesterday if he could have reached him. pe was 'O enraged at the sight of him that he was chained in order to prevent an assult.J t is very sad to spoil so fine a story as the above—but Sheriff Patterson, who brought the the two men from the Penitentiary, says that the above is wholly untrue and that Williams made 110 attempt upon the life of Durham at all, or to injure him in any way.
