FoundBomb injure^ minerPHOENIX (AP) - A Casa Grande copper mine foreman Was in critical condition in a local. hospital today after a package bomb exploded as hewas opening it in his house.. ► •Newell Webb, 41, had his arms amputated at the elbows, hospital officials said. .He also suffered wounds in the face, abdomen and leg from the blast Wednesday afternoon.Pinal County Sheriff Coy De Arman said Webb got the shoe box-siae package from his mailbox when he returned home from work at the American Smelting and Refining Co.'s operation near here.tive of Mesa and an ASARCO employe 20 years, apparently took the package inside hishouse and was unwrapping it at the kitchen table! when theexplosion occurred, jAlthough severely injured, Webb crawled into: the living room and knocked the receiver off the telephono.A neighbor on the four-party line complained that a receiver was off the hook a few minutes later, and the telephone company traced the line and contacted Webb.Webb told the telephone company to notify police that he had been hurt.Deputies said Webb, a na-Svv“It was a parcel bomb from what we can determine,*’ saidKlyle Stall, assistant postal inspector for the Rocky Mountain area. “It was in a mailbox with the victim’s other mail so we presume it was mailed.
