' V..Shafer's resignation followed a declaration by Sheriff Frauhiger that he believed Shafer was responsible for bootleggers having been tipped off ..last Friday of a proposed raid by Sheriff Frauhiger. Chief of PoliceGehrett and deputies. The bootleggers were reported as scheduled1 to come from Fort Wayne to make de^ liveries, but failed'to‘ appear. Seeking to locate the leak” the. sheriff, accused Shafer. The latter denied his' guilt, but suggested that if Fran-higer felt that way about it, he would, resign. The bootleggers are supposed to have been tipped through alocal headquarters for such operations. Further developments are expected. -
