FIREARM USAGEEditor, Journal-World:May 1 answer your editorial of January 20, “Firearms, Cars.” *First, I am a law-abiding citizen. and was taught by my lather, who was a peace officer for more than 30 years, the proper use of firearms. This instruction took place at the age of 12 years. I was taught that a firearm was for the protection of my home and with the warning that I would be properly punished if I used a gun unlawfully.I have never been cited for misuse of a gun or for any other misdemeanor. In New York, wpich has the most drastic law against the ownership of firearms, we have the most muggings and murders and with the use of firearms. In this case the law-abiding citizen is disarmed and is at the mercy of the criminal. The National Rifle Association is* teaching young people the proper use of firearms and very fey' of those instructed, are ever cited for misuse of a gun. And these young marksmen may well be the bulwark against invasion of this country by communist armies.Let us legislate against the criminal who uses the firearm in unlawful ways, rather than legislate against the firearm itself.Fred E. Johnson 808 Maine St.
