Underwood ot Chicago who orxa-mitted suicide by swallowing poison last Friday. The victim baa been Identified By local people as being a former Rock Falls boy, and tbsson ot the late Darias Underwood one time prominent bere.The remain* arrived by train this afternoon from Chicago, and were taken to the Wbeeiock undertakingparlors in Rock Falla. No arrangement* for burial have been made, other than that the remains vriC be Interred in the Rock Falla cemetery beside his father and mother.Underwood’s body was found in a hotel Just outside the loop In Chicago. He had scribbled several notes, ' one to **my nearest relatives, and ' another which, read, ■ reasons: very discouraged over business reverses; all money lost; unable to get a job at any price. The Chicago police were told that Underwood had Inherited more than *500,000 and had squandered it the last five yaars.A sister, Mrs. Ida Underwood Ooahert of Chicago, claimed the dead man as her brother, and told j that he and his family had been 1 estranged. She said her brother Frank recently came to Chicago from' Moline, and endeavored to “straighten out the affairs of E. C. Underwood.J The parents of the suicide victimlived on a farm east of Rock Fallson the Dixon road, for a number of years. Later they retired from farming, moved into town and resided at 813 Third avenue, where the mother died about fifteen years ago. Afterwards the family went to Chicago. ■The father and one son -Beit passedled in the oRck Falls’cemetery. Besides the sister In Chicago, Underwood named as his relatives, Frank Underwood of Moline: Ella If. Grey out of town, Michigan, I believe/' and Esther Underwood ot Dixon.
