Taylor may testify in Friday’s hearing# TAYLOR from Page 3AOn April 6, Taylor recanted his alleged confessions regarding the Hayden and Severson murders and instead said he was covering up for another man who committed thecrimes.Ron Martinson, a former Dunn County Sheriff’s Department detective, testified that Taylor on June 16 admitted to shooting Lundgren three times in the head on a rural West Bend road. Those statements led Washington County officials to reinvestigate Lundgren’s death, which had first been ruled a trafficfatality. He died Nov. 30, 1986.Dunn County officials and lawyers for Taylor agreed on June 12 that certain statements by Taylor would not be admissible as evidence. The defense contends the agreement included the June 16 discussion between Martinson and Taylor, while District Attorney Michael Fumstahl claims the agreement was only for June 12.The witnesses, all current or past investigators, said Taylor had been given Miranda rights properly before interrogations and that he was not mistreated in any manner. The hearing was recessed until Friday afternoon because Amundson was not finished testifying before needing to leave to attend a relative’s funeral.Durning said “there is a good possibility’’ Taylor may testify Friday, “depending on what Mr.Amundson says.”Taylor testified in Eau Claire County regarding the same issue. He said, regarding the April 4 questioning, “The pressure was definitely there. They (investigators) kept coming at me.”Taylor also requested April 4 that_ • • Fumstahl be summoned and be involved with the discussion Taylor, Bammert and Amundson were having at the jail. Fumstahl came and listened to part of Taylor’s alleged confession about Severson before suggesting Taylor get an attorney .The question raised by the defense is whether Taylor’s request was for the district attorney, or simply for a legal representative, and exactly at what part of the interview was Furnstahl summoned.Judge Muza said attorneys, at theclose of Friday's hearing, will most likely wish to file briefs on the motion to suppress. She said she could not give an exact date of when a decision would be rendered.Taylor’s appearance in Dunn County court was his first there since Aug. 12. The case was delayed because of Fumstahl’s request to see Taylor’s previous medical, psychological and psychiatric records. Muza ruled against the request, but the 3rd District Court of Appeals reversed that decision.
