Gas Curtailment Topic For Westfall BoardThe major portion of the Westfall Board of Education s regular meeting Monday night was devoted todiscussions of the gas curtailment.I/)cal Superintendent Gordon Massie advised the board that he had been notified of the gas cutback and the board proceeded with suggestions onJudge Guy G. Cline Monday authorized the Board of County Commissioners to hire legal counsels to assist the county officials in a civil suit in the United States District Court.Richard L. Gerhardt, Sheriff Dwight Radcliff, Deputy William Dountz, and Common Pleas Judge William Ammer are party defendants in a civil suit brought forth by Florence Meade.The prosecuting attorney has determined that the acts alleged in Mrs. Meade’s complaint were well-intended on the part of the defendants and they were only performing their official duties.The final decision on that determination will, however, be made by the federal court.Newshow to continue within the allocations of the gas company.In an effort to stay within the allotment, the board decided to lower temperatures in the classrooms during the day. At night and on weekends when the buildings are not in use, the temperature settings will be considerably lower.The board urges ail parents to dresstheir children in heavier clothing and recommends light sweaters for schooldress.Action was taken to employ teachers for driver training courses for the second semester. Most of the driving time for the students will be outside the regular high school day.Approval was also given to tutor one home bound student.Clinton Trapp was employed as a substitute custodian at the high school. He will be working in the position vacated by Edwin Towler.Substitute teacher list No. 9 as recommended by the county superintendent was approved by the local board.Supplemental contracts were awarded to I^awrence Dow as head track coach and to Ralph Wellington as assistant baseball coach.In other action, the board passed a resolution to approve an advance draw on the local taxes.The meeting was continued until 8 p.m. Feb. 3 at which time the board will act on items from bid package No. 3 on the construction of the new middle school.
