FLOGGING PROBE IN ATLANTA BEGINS IN EARNEST TODAYAtlanta, Ga., Jan. 21—The probe offlogging at the city stockade promis-ed by Councilmen will be started this afternoon by the Prisoners committee of that body*. Under the terms of the resolution ordering the probe the committee must hold at least one session before the next meeting of council and make at least a partial report.■»It appears from recent investigations that negro women were whipped at the stockade and in some in-stances what is known as the “bucking chair” was used. When the matter first came to the attention of council, af the instance of the local humane society, orders were issued by council to the city warden to discontinue the practice and this has been done. This brought up the matter of flogging convicts in different sections of the state and the state authorities have announced that a definite policy will be established for the future# although few eases, if any of ill-treatment, have been reported.
