O.. resulted yesterday in the probably fatal shoo tins of Ellsworth E. Weir, son of ex-Senator Morgan H. Weir, and a member of the law firm of Weir, Weir . Darrow, of this city. Mra Brill had consulted the firm w-ch a view of Instituting divorce proceedings. and yesterday Mr. Brill arrived in the dty from the East and went to the office of Dr. George M. Bakin, whereMr. Weir was asked to meet him in conference. After Mr. Weir's arrival it is alleged that Mr. Brill demanded that he sign a statement admitting undue relations wtth Mrs. BriU, and the attorney indignantly refused, saying that his connection with his client was purely pro-feeaftssal* •’ 'BriU insisted and Weir still declined. Mr. Brill, meanwhile, was flourishing a weapon, which he pointed at Mr. Weir's breast and fired, the bullet striking the attorney fust above the heart, passing through the collarbone and coming out at the back. Dr. Dak in prevented a second shot, and Mr. Weir was removed to his home, while Mr. Brill was placed tinder arrest and bail refused. Beyond asserting that the shooting was an unfortunate accident, the defendant declined to talk. He is a native of Virginia and thirty-five years old. He came here twelve years ago, and married the adopted daughter of F. C. King. For a time he conducted a jewelry store here, but failed for a large amount, after which he went to Mexico and struck it rich. He ownsa fine home at Cleveland, 0., where his family reside, consisting of his wife and three little daughters. Mr. Weir is a man of family, and a prominent memberof the northern Indiana bar.
