The aunt y- ! did not care to shoulder the expense of Id ; her keeping and had her committed to the ' Industrial School in this town, making it appear that she w’as several years older than the facts warranted. She remained at the Industrial School until about a year ago when a place was found for her at the residence of Deputy Sheriff Merwin's father in Durham, where she says Mer-win exercised great influence over her and accomplished her ruin. She left Merwin’s and came to this city, where she has been employed by Dr. Dibble for nearly three months, in the capacity of a in domestic. Friends of the girl in in j this town are determined that h- the case against Merwin shall J be pushed. Deputy Sheriff Arthur ;h ' H. Merwin has a wife and family in Durham. The matter has been placed before the board of selectmen here, who have determined that although the girl has no legal claim on them, yet they will not run I the charce of having a woman and baby iy charge^ole to them. It is expected that [ proceedings will develop against Merwin in a few days. There was talk of a settle ‘ ment, but Merwin proposes to fight the matter to the bitter end, and for that purpose has retained Lawyer Newtoi^of Durham and New Haven. Sheriff Hutchinson, who appointed Merwin, has been made acquainted with all the facts.
