Temporary City Hall To Cost TaxpayersThe Shepherd City Council voted to buy a portable building at a cost of $1,900 and use the building as a temporary city hall and then as a tool storage building after the proposed new Shepherd city hall is constructed. Action was taken at a called meeting last Friday nightThe city is presently using a building that was moved in on the old town square The building belongs to Arnett Lilley. Shepherd taxpayer who has been outspoken in this protest against the city's action which resulted in the ex penditure of $3,500 of thetaxpayer's money fora lot The lot was purchased from a member of the Mayor’s family and lies adjacent to other Beeson properties Lilley hasappeared as spokesman for a large number of petitioners who are against the transactionLilley said the land deal is“rotten and he'll fight it all the way He has stated further that the $3,500 price is ridiculous and the lot should have been price closer to $000 to be in line with the presentmarket.Lilley also has been serving as City Judge at a pay of $50 per month He has allowed the city use of his building free of chargeAt Friday night's meeting Beeson said the main reason Lilley was kept on as City Judge was because the city couldn’t use the man's building without paying him something.“Instead of paying rent, we paid him as City Judge,”Beeson said Councilman D. G. Colemanmade a motion to buv the building City employe Jimmy Carrier reported to the council a building of about 360 square feet could be purchased fromWoodville Building Sales Compoany.
