Theft of a small safe from Baty’s Cigar store, South Mam street, containing some $1,300 and an unknown amount in checks was reported to the sheriff's office Tuesdaymorning.Entrance to the store, sometime between 11 p.m., Monday and 6 a.m., Tuesday was gained by forcing two doors at the rear of the building after an unsuccessful attempt to gain entrance through a side window. The safe was rolled, carried, or otherwise transported by persons unknown out through the back door.
