Marshal Mitchell and Scott county Sheriff Morris found a .20 gauge shotgun at his home in Crothersville late Wednesday afternoon. Police said Kovert was killed with charges from a .20 gauge shotgun.Mr. Kovert’s father said his son always carried a billfold with him with money in it and the billfold, which is missing, has not been recovered. Several dollars in change was found in Kovert’s sweater pocket by the officers at the slaying scene and his watch had not been taken. Bowers, inhis preliminary statement, told officers he had about $40 of Ko-vert’s money on him later Tuesday night.Funeral services for Mr. Kovert. known to his friends by thenickname “George ”, will be conducted at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon from the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Crothersville with the Rev. Charles H. Schmitt, pastor, in charge. Burial in the Crothersville cemetery.Friends may call at the Kovert home in C rothersville after 6 o’-Clock tonight.Mr. Kovert was born November13, 1918, in Crothersville, the son of Henry W. and Lula Peters Kovert, who survive. Although bornon November 13. he was not superstitious and had requested ashis 1950 license plate, the number SK-13. which the car was bearing when he drove it on his last trip.Graduated in 1938He attended grade school and high school in Crothersville, being graduated from the Crothersville High School with the class of 1938. He enlisted April 4, 1941, in the U. S. Army and served for four years and eight and one-half months in a medical detachment of the famous 38th Cyclone Division. Much of that time was spent overseas in the Pacific theater of operations and he was stationed New Guinea. He from the army 1945After his discharge from the army, he operated a taxi for Raymond Hall in Crothersville for a short time, later buying out Mr. Hall and since that time he had operated his own taxi business, the only one in Crothersville. His parents said he enjoyed operating the taxi and had never indicated to them there was any danger involved in his work.His father is a carpenter-con-tractor in Crothersville.
