uuoogterghLtitSlleir.AGENTS SLAY‘MA’ BARKERAND HER SONLong* Sought Bremer Kidnap Suspects Are Trailed To Florida.d.tesdi,aOklawaha, Fla., Jan. 17.—Federal agents trailed “Ma” Barker and her son, Fred, to their Florida hideout Wednesday and killed the long-sought Bremer kidnaping suspects with machine gun fire after a furious six-hour battle.“Ma” Barker, mentioned as the brains of the Barker-Karpis gang held responsible for the kidnaping of Edward G. Bremer, St. Paul, Minn., banker, died with a machine gun in her hand.As the gun fight raged, described by residents of the little village of Oklawaha as “like a war,” reports of a greater list spread. One was that Alvin Karpis, co-leader of the gang, also was slain. After the gunfire had ceased, however, and federal agents had entered the house, it was established that only Barker and his mother were killed. No one was permitted t to enter the grounds Wednesday night.The battle started shortly after daylight Wednesday morning when department of justice agents, led t by E. J. Connelley of Cincinnati, t surrounded the house on Lake t Weir. Connelley approached and called to the occupants to surrender.1 Machine gun fire was the answer and the battle was on.
