The following account of a shooting affair which occurred last Satuulay we clip from the Evansville Journal:An Irishman named William Riley was shot and instantly killed by John Lucas on Just fc’aturday afternoon at a trading boat keep by the latter at the head of “I3ig Bayou” on the Wabash river about seven miles west of Owensville, Ind. The Irishman went to the boat Saturday mfcrning and bought some tobacco from Lucas and left, returning in the afternoon, when it is supposed the shooting occurred. Xoone witnessed the tragedy except Lucas’ son, aged about thirteen.Their story is that when Riley returned in the afternoon he became quarrelsome and finally drew a knife caught Lucas by the throat and demanded some money. Lucas instantly dro\v a revolver and commenced firing at his assailant, and did not stop until be had fired four shots, three ofj which took effect, instantly killing Riley.•Lucas is under arrest and will have a preliminary trial before Esquire John Martin to-morrow. He lias always born the character of a peaceable man.■’ Other reports are that Lucas owed iley some money and that Riley demanded it and the difficulty commenced in that way. The real facts in the •asc may never be known as none but interested parties were present.
