He forced his way into the car and, lodged behind them in the space in back of the seats, ordered Hodgman to drive off, taking only back roads, Dykes saidAT ONE point, with his hand still in his coat pocket, Evans walked the couple into a bar to buy a six - pack erf beer, he said. Later, back in the car, Evans offered them a drink, but the collie refused, he added.Dykes went or to say that throughout the ride, while Evans was in control, he kept warning the couple to “prepare for what was going to happen to them.”Finally. Evans directed Hodgman to drive the ear into a woded area and park. Dykes saidWhen they got out of the ear, he testified, Evans ordered the couple to make love in front of him, but this was too much for Hodgman. who refused and toldEvans he had taken all he could takeEvans, apparently afraid the couple would drive away and leave him stranded, offered to compromise, but Hodgman. now behevinj^that his kidnapper was unarmed fetched his own 22* caliber pistol from the rear of lus sports car, Dykes said.After having Evans remove his coat and lay himself across the hood of the car, Hodgman and his girlfriend drove to Salisbury, where an off - duty city policeman spotted them. Dykes saidUpon completion of Dykes' narrative, defense counsel John E. Jacob Jr., asked if Evans ap* pea red to be drunk when he was arrested Dykes said Evans had been drinking and told him that he had severe drinking problems which causes his bizarre behaviour.After reducing the bond.
