Morris Siegel Slaying in IndianaArouses Keen Interest LocallySlaying: of Morris Siegel, %7 year old king of '‘fixers’* in the Chicago area and for some time a resident of Woodstock, arrests keen local Interest because of his extensive acquaintance throughout McHenry county'. His activities, however, were in and about Woodstock, where he operated on a scale that marveled those who observed his endeavors.While a resident of Woodstock he came to Harvard frequently and exhibited some of his brazen undertakings, but nowise like those he put over in the county seat community Siegers methods, at least some oT them, were to represent himself as being in close touch with pfablle officials of high and low degreeGovernors, niayors, prosecuting attorneys and similar public officials ho tried to exploit and in this way induce many in search of employment to pay him suras of money inreturn for appointments to posts of remuneration and responsibility. The extent of those he duped in this way is hard to estimate During th© last half year he invested in a small tract of land near Knox, Ind, and was apparently carrying on the type of business in which he had been engaged in Chicago and Woodstock. Failure to pay the man from whom ho bought the land led to a quarrel that resulted In the slaying- pt Siegel by Carl A. C. Johnson. 36 year old farmer, from Whom the former bought the farm.“Johnson has “made confession hi which he says he struck Siegel with a piece of board, the act being in self defense, he adds.
