The -women were all frank with the court and confessed their guilt as alleged by the officers. Maud IMiidler, the keeper, was fined $10 an'd costs,while AJlldeWolf. Cote Martin, Bailie Slick and Florence Trav-iys were fined $5 and costs each for being inmates. Bud McCoy, with his familiarautograph, came .to the girl’s’ relief, stayed their fine and saved them '.from from a sojourn in jail. Bert Travis, the hackman, who was arrested d/uring the raid of tih^ -resort, pleaded not guilty to a aharge of associating anfd his- trial will be had t'his afternoon. Travis is the husband of 'Florence Travis, one of the inmates. It is said of -him that -he Often calls at the resort and assaults 'his wife because she fais to give him as much of the profits Of her vice as he thinks she should. This information came to the ears Of the -police and more than anything else caused the raid to ibe made. Travis was a hack-man in this city some years ago, ibeing employed as driver for .Stiepherd’s hack line. He had a decidedly shady reputation and was forced .to leave the city in a hurry to avoid arrest for embezzling some money from Ms employers. He remained away three years and returned only a few w^eeks ago. Mr. Shepherd, by iwhom the tricky hack-m-an was employed, died a few months ago and unless the son, who was a partner with the father at the time off the embezzlement, desires to renew the case, Travis Is safe from prosecution on -the mbezzlement charge.Patrolman Mullen of the ‘First district says Travis is a source of much annoyance about the numerous resorts and the only way to avoid constant trouble is to keep ‘him out of the houses, which the officer intends to do if it is necessary send him to jail every night.
