The mother had her day.And justice had her day. James L. “Buddy'* Barnett was found guilty of possessing a gambling table and being a proprietor of a tavern where gambling was permitted. He was fined $500 and sentenced to one year at hard labor for thecounty Wednesday by Judge Myron Waits Judge Waits originally postponed the trial after Barnett s wife. Linda, telephoned the courthouse to say she thought her child was on the way. Waits said the trial would be reset later, depending on the baby’s arrival and the condition ofthe mother.Barnett was arrested on the gambling charge Oct. 30 following a raid at the Eastaboga Country Club. The club hassince been padlocked by the court.Barnett has appealed the conviction.
