Howard Malcom Ticknor.TRIED TO KILL HIS WIFEGeorge Bowse, Formerly of Norwood, Pursues and Stabs Mrs. Bowse at Her Home in North Tewksbury.Lowell, Jan. 12.—George Bowse, or Bowers. attempted to murder bis wife in North Tewksbury tonight by stabbing her with some weapon, which he threw away when pursued by the constables.It appears from the stories told by the Tewksbury constables, by Mr. Fleming and by James Spencer, a relative of the injured woman, that Ilowse was for many yea s a resiib nt of Norwood, Mass., but, not giving his wi.e any support, she loft him and came to Lowell, w* ore she engag d a tenement on Middlesex street for herself and infant. Here she remained lor a time, until Mr. Snencer found her and took her and the child to b s homo in Tewksbury.When Bowse recovered from bis spree he followed the wife about three months ago to iewksbury, and being awraro that Mr. and Mrs. Spencer wero unable to read and write, he read an alleged law document to the family demanding his wife. They didn’t want to keep her. but endeavored to induce Bowse to gvo her enough money to purchase fooX clothing and fuel. It was at this time that ho threatened to killBpeu-cer, and he was sentenced to the Lowell jail.On his release bis wife and child lived with him, but he again left them to starve, and they wore taken recently to Tewksbury by Mr. Fleming and Mr. Spencer, and p acod in a comfortable home with a widow resident of the North Village.About 7o’clock this evening. Bowse, cra/v witli liquor, made his appearance and cha ©d his wife from her new home to the res dence of Mr. Spencer. As she was about to enter the house ho stabbed her on the Jeft shoulder, causing a wound which reached theshoulder-blade. He roamed about the outside of Mr. Snencor’s house, muttering threas against Mr. Spenoei and his family. Mr. Spencer stepped out the back door and had th constables on Bowse’strack. They chased him nearlyto the Lowell lino. and they hadto tie him hand and foot before he could he placed in the team and brought to the Lowell station. At the station the accused pretended To I e in a stunor. and refused to give the keeper his name. Mrs. Bowse's wound, though ser ous, is not considered dangerous.
