CRIME OF THE WEEKMurderIt was approximately 8:30 in the morning on October 17, 1989 when the ordeal began in the south Waco community near S. 26th Street and Dutton Ave. ,Waco Police were notified of a missing 10 year old. The missing child was Sheila Finch. Sheila was last seen leaving 2812 Ross. She was headed to a nearby pay phone to make a phone call. The phone call was made and it is believed that call was made from the pay phones at the grocery store at 26th and Dutton. This was the last time she was heard from - approximately 8:45 that Tuesday morning. Area law enforcement agencies conducted a massive search throughout the south Waco area looking for leads to Sheila’s whereabouts.The search ended October 19, 1989. Sheila Finch’s body was found near Lake Waco that Thursday afternoon. Sheila had been stabbed to death.
