Talladegawitness protectedTALLADEGA - Talladega authorities have placed a key state witness in an upcomingembezzlement case against former Sheriff Luke Brewer in protective custody after threee prisoners escaped hereTuesdayThe witness was identified as Mrs Joyce Carroll whose hus band Johnny Carroll was one of the escapees He had been brought to Talladega as a defense witness in the trial of Brewer scheduled to beginMondayAccording to the sheriff s office, Carroll and David Coshatt remain at large Billy Wayne Roberts was recaptured shortly aftger the trio’s break from county jail Tuesday night,Carroll earlier had escaped from a prison transfer bus in Jefferson County prior to the September impeaaehment trial of Brewer, authorities said He was arrested in Anniston at his wife’s home Sept 1 and authorities said he had a pistol in his possession at the timeDuring the impeachment trial.
