Young Clark 6Wes Chase and Escapes.Sheriff King and Deputy Return to Nashville Without Their Prisoners—Married The Girl and Then Deserted Her.ye;Io\StiiththimtBrown county furnished another ex-*citing episode yesterday.lt; \Several weeks ago Miss Louisa Petro,aged about 15 years, daughter of Beniamin F. Petro,who lives near Mt. Liberty, about six miles this side of Nashville, brought paternity proceedings against Charles Clark, the nineteen-year-old son of Andrew Clark. Miss Petro and young Clark live in the same neighborhood and had been keeping company for some time.The suit was made out and filed before! Justice Jacob West, at Mt. Liberty, after which Mr. Petro came and employed the services of Wm. M. Walkman, of this city, to plead the cause of his daughter.The trial was set for Saturday about three weeks ago and the day before MrPetro sent his son here to inform Mr.Waltman that the matter bad beensettled by marriage, so Mr. Waltmandid not go there on Saturday.One day last week Mr. Petro came tothe city and informed *Mr. Waltmanthat on the night before the originaltime set for the trial that Clark left hiswife, ( Petro’s daughter) stating that hehad borrowed a saddle and would haveto return it to the owner. Clark neverreturned to his wife but went to his father’s and the deserted wife went to her former home.Mr. Petro then came here Saturday* %and conferred with his attorney, Mr.Waltman, who began immediate pro-•* * .♦ceedings under the statute of 1895, in regard to bringing proceedings for a penalty against any person who marries a girl and deserts her, for which the lowest penalty is $200. Accordingly Mr Waltman brought suit under that statute for bastardy and sent the papers by Mr. Petro who took and filed them in the circuit court of Brown, at Nashville Saturday evening. Thes.clerk issued the proper warrants and •placed them in the hands of Sheriff King Monday morning. Early Monday morning Sheriff : George W. King and son Allie, who is deputy sheriff, started for the Clark residence to serve thewarrants and to arrest Charles. They effected the arrest and started when the father and mother of Clark interfered and rescued their son from the✓4sheriff,holding the sheriff while Charles ran away, succeeding in getting away in the woods near by.The sheriff and deputy then returned to Nashville and Wm. Pittman came to Columbus and secured C. A.
