W. W. Taylor, the defaulting treasurer of South Dakota, is a native of Lafayette and is a son of Maj. Wm. Taylor, head of a big banking firm. The young man went west in 1884.The brutal murder of the Wrattan family, six persons, near Loogootee, and for which ‘‘Bud” Stone was executed, is being revived and it is now believed that Stone had a confederate whom he shielded by his confessions.Near Eaton, the three-year-old daughter of Samuel Hartel was burned to death. The child stood too close to a red hot stove and her dress took fire. Mrs. Hartel succeded in quenching the flames, but was badly burned in doing so.W. T. Marvin of Knox, ’ recently purchased a lot of unclaimed express goods and found, among articles, two sets of army discharge papers issued in the name of Augustus Coquillard, of Company E, Forty-eighth IndianaVolunteers.Dr. Neale of Greencastle, who wasreported missing, has turned up at Niles, Mich., where he is Jstill with a minstrel troupe, and levying on its box receipts to meet bills incurred in his home city. He is now ten days out and no ducats in sight.
