COURT-HOUSE NEEDED.Port Republic will soon have to have a court house if things continue as they haye been for the past month or more. Nearly every Saturday there are a number of war rant and criminal trials held here. The room in which they-are held is too small for the crowd. Last Saturday, Luther Randall was tried for drawing a pistol on one of the Haynes’. It was knocked from hiB hand and captured by Will Raynes. Their Honors,Esquires Petrie and John W* Bowman, fined the young man and bound | him over to keep the peace for six months. The next case tried was John P. Lewis, Jr.1 vs. Robert and John Shifflet, for catting and appropriating locust posts on the lands of Mr. Lewis. Verdict: Guilty ot trespass, fine $5 and costs. Mr. Lewis then bad Robert Shifflet arrested and tried for steal- ing, killing and butchering a beef belonging to John Miller. (This is the same case in which the grand jury failed to bring in a true bill last fall). Mr. Lewis thought he had additional eyidence, but the trial re* , suited in an acquittal for Shifflet, throwing jthe costs on Mr. Lewis. I
