KSlot Machine OperatorGiven One Year’s TermUpper Marlboro, Jan. 9 |Fi-Sam La no. slot machine operator, was convicted today on a charge of thxeatening John C. Duffy, Brentwood tavern owner.Judge John B. Gray, of the Prinee Georges County Circuit Court, sentenced Lano to a year in the Maryland House of Correction.Lano's attorney filed notice of intent to appeal,Lano, formerly of New York, denied the charge that he threatened to accuse Duffy with an offense unless he icmsiated two of Lano’s slot machines m his tavern.Duffy testified that he borrowed $1,200 from Lano last July to help pay a $2,800 debt to the former* i owner of the tavern. He said he 11 Save Lano four post-dated checks* | of $400 each and made a verbal agreement that Lano hold them until August 18 and then deposit them one at a time over a two-week penod,Duffy said that on August 10,* Lano and an associate came to his tavern to talk about reinstating Lano’s slot machines.He said Lano told him if they f didn't put the machines in some ; one is going to jail for writing u those bad checks.
