HERE IT IS!THE RESULT OF THE POST MORTEM EXAMINATIONHeld on the Remains of the Late Wilfred C. Smith Yesterday Indicates That He Was the Vitctm of Fool Play.ICiAt a post mortem examination held on the remains of the* late Wilfred C.Smith yesterday afternoon by Bra. J.A. Mitchell and W. C. Rank they report that a welt on the side of the head extending to a point just above the ear was found, probably the reeultof a blow with a club. On removing the scalp the skull was found to be uninjured. .In oonnection with their report the phy-11 fl sicians state that the deceased made a statement in the presence of his father and others on the morning of the accident, which the post mortem fully corroborates Mr. Smith stated that he had I . become satisfied that tramp3 were lodg- * ing in his barn habitually and feared that they might fire it, and expressed a purpose I the night before of getting up a little I A* earlier than usual, that he might see them before they left. The morning of i . the accident he got up, put on his Bbirt | and knit jacket, drawers and pants, and his shoes and stockings. He then called Mr. Spellman, who is employed at Fleek’e wholesale house, laid out a clean Buit of underwear in the bath room preparatory to taking a bath after returning from the barn. I ^He went to the barn, climbed up into the haymow, and was struck on the head with a club in the hands of a tramp, which threw him off his feet. He saw the man jump out of the haymow window. He then tackled the second tramp, and as he expressed it, had a tassel with him. He was not able to give a distinct account of this trouble, and there seemed to be a lapse of time for which he could not account. The first thing he knew after the encounter with the 'second tramp was that the the Btraw in the mow was on fire all around him; also his clothes. He jumped down the hole into the stable below. Here he tore off his clothes but was so bewildered by the blow he had I received and the dense Bmoke in the I *• stable that he was unable to find his way out. Becoming suffocated by the Bmoke he fell and was unable to arise again. He probably received bis worst | injuries from the fire igniting the straw on which he fell. | piH
