JV. 1NC1BUI1 lb 1HTattorney.FATALLY SHOT.Mahaska County Constable Wounded at Evans.Oskaloosa, Jan. 4.(Special.)—As the result of a riot between whites anil colored men at Evans last night. Constable John Ruggenberg, was shot and fatally wounded while making an arrest this morning.The trouble first started at a charivari at a wedding Wednesday night. Jule Laden, white, was badly pounded up by Hob Wright, colored. Another fight followed yesterday morning. and last night the two factions took possession of O'Brien's saloon, and O'Brien and O'Brien's bartenders, Evans and Laden were left unconscious on the floor. Guns were Hushed but no shots were fired. Ruggenberg had warranth sworn out for I twelve and in attempting to serve them was shot in the groin by Leighton. Leighton and his partners took the remainder of the warrants from the injured officer and skipped. Sheriff Crlckett and a posse from this city are in pursuit.
