Local OfficersPick Up Pair Wanted Herej Two Nodaway county men who | have been wanted by local law en-! fercement officers since September■ were taken into custody yesterday.: The men, who were wanted on en~11irely different charges, are being | held in the county jail.I Clifford Beck, age 21. of Guilford,\ was apprehended at the home of a ; relative in Guilford about 3:30 yes-| terriay afternoon by Sgt. J. W. Whan j of the state patrol. lie was wanted . for jumping bond on a two-year jail ; sentence which was imposed Nov.I 26, 1S49 .after he had been convicted ! of breaking and entering and grand ; larceny. Powell of La Cygne, Kas. Wednesday night he took Powell’s truck and drove to Butler. Mo., where lie boarded a bus for Nodaway county.Early Thursday morning he broke into the Stingley dry goods store at Guilford and stole merchandise valued at over S!K).Thursday night he also broke into the Guilford cafe and stole a small amount of food.After Beck was reported .to have been at Guilford yesterday Whan went to the home of his grandmother and found him hiding in a closet in the home.Beck Admits BurglariesBeck admitted the recent burglaries and led Whan to a barn southeast of Guilford where .life had hidden the stolen merchandise. The merchandise, including a pocket knife, a wrist watch, a. cigarette lighter, and a quantity of clothing, all was recovered.Beck told Whan last night that he had planned to leave for Peoria, 111., today. ’ . ■ -He waived preliminary hearing on a new charge of burglary and larceny in magistrate court this morning and was- bound over to circuit court for trial.He also faces the two-year.*term which he did not serve in 1949.
