ALLEGED SWINDLER CAUGHT IN CANADAIJ.\ The Associated Press. jST. LOUIS. Mo., Jan. 5.- Post-j office inspectors today received word of the arrest in Toronto, Canada. of Virgil A. Hite. 40 charged with uing the mails to defraud in swindling a Xixa. Mo., hank and the j Arkansas National Bank at Hot i Springs. Ark., of $17,200.The alleged swindler gained the confidence of bankers in both; towns by setting himself up as an I insurance and real estate broker’ and maintaining smal accounts in banks at Springfield and Carthage,, Mo., on which he cashed small checks. Finally, it is believed, he deposited draffs for $9,700 with the Hot Springs Bank and $7,300 with the Ni.\a Bank and was gone be-1 for** word was received from the Springfield and Carthage banks that ' he had no money w ith them to j cover the drafts.
