ROUNDING UP BANK BANDITSFIVE OF THE SIX IOWA BOBBERS NOW UT CUSTODY.Fifth Member of Gang, Wounded, Found Hiding in Hnyittck—Gun Battle Precede* Attempt to Loot,B*nk.SIOUX CITY, U., Jan. 6.—The fifth member of the bandit sang which l'ought a gun battle with officers at Maurice, la., early this morning,! wounding three of them wea found hiding in a haystack three miles north of Ireton by a aheriifu posse early this evening. A frail of blood across the snow led the officer* *to the place where the gunman, believed to be Harry Drury of Sioux City, lay seriously wounded, bullets having pierced his abdomen.Four other members of the bank t4mob“ two of them well-known to Sioux City police, were captured earlier in the day. . One bandit has not yet been captured. Guarded by a squad of armed men the five bandits are held in the county jail at Orange City, la. * |Two of the bandits have been posi-* lively identified. They are Elmer Dingman, facing trial here for robbery of a Court street grocery store and John La very, recently sentenced to the penitentiary at Fort Madison forgive years for the holdup of Albert Flanders, a Sioux City stockman in Morningside last summer. Lavery is out on bonds pending an appeal to the supreme court. *All Sioux City Men.Altho two of the men arrested with the attempted bank robbery gave their names as Frank Olson of.Chicago and Guy E. Brooke of Louisville, Ky., Sioux county authorities stated last night that they believe 4 they are Sioux City men. iEntrance to the Sioux County Savings bank was gained thru the front door, a charge of nitro glycerine was set and the safe blown. IMeanwhile Basil J. Sherlock, train dispatcher for the Great Northern railway, had noticed the telegraph wires were cut, had become suspicious and notified the sheriff's office at Orange City. A posse was immediately die- • patched to Maurice and upon Its ar-,rival surprised the petermen.” IOne of the gang had mounted guard in the bandit's automobile outBide the bank. As the sheriff and his posse drove up the bandit on guard opened fire. The officers returned the fire, wounding the bandit who dashed into the bank and called the gang. Firing as they left the bank, the gunmen ran to their automobile.' jSheriff Wounded in Fight. :In the exchange of shots Sheriff Hugo Synhorst of Orange City, la., was seriously wounded, seventeen buckshots entering his legs.
