Child DiesIn ChicoHouse FireCHICO—One child was killed and three others injured in a house fire last night in the unincorporated Chapmantown area. The dead child is identified asWanda Johns, one-year-olddaughter of Roger and Rita Johns, 1641D St.Roger Jr., 3, and Rachel Johns, 2, were taken to the bum center at Community Hospital, where they were reported in “critical condition today with third degree bums.Butte County firemen said Johns, the three children and a neighbor, Dixie Stone, 13, were in the Johns' residence when fire broke out about 5:50 p.m yesterday. They said Johns woke up from a nap on the living room sofa and took the children outside. His youngest daughter was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, firemen said.Miss Stone was listed in stable condition today at Enloe Hospital where she is being treated for smokeinhalation and shock.Cause of the fire, which did an estimated $25,000 damage to the house, is under investigation, according to firemen.
