DUEL TO THE DEATHlktween I Hi mers—One Killed,the Other I\ing.Knoxville, Tenn., Jan. 5.—Newscomes from Well Springs, an isolated village in Claiborne county, of a bloody battle tlxeie in which one man wag killed and another tatally injured. For some time James ClaiDorne and Sylvester Sprangler. farmers, have been quarreling alxmt their landed interests. Recently they met. and failing to settle their differences with words resorted to force. Claiborne shot Sylvester through the breast, causing death in a few minutes. Sylvester before dying cut off an arm of Claiborne, and crashed his skull with an ax. Claiborne is reported dying. Relatives ofthe men are not satisfied with the tight and seem determined to renew the battle. Frank Sylvester, an eye witness to the murder, has been arrested as an accomplice.
